AIK’s CEO/club director Manuel Lindberg is leaving the club.
– I take my responsibility as part of the situation and have therefore chosen to step aside, he says.
During yesterday’s rowdy 08 derby between Djurgården and AIK, where scandalous scenes unfolded, a call came from the AIK fans.
They displayed, among other things, a banner with the text “Avgå Manuel”.
After the match, he answered the question if he would stay.
– It is a board decision. The board can decide which way they want to go in that case. I love AIK, I still think I can do a lot for AIK but I’m not here unless people want me. Then I won’t stay either, said Lindberg.
Men during the morning came the news that he is leaving the club.
– I take my responsibility as part of the situation and have therefore chosen to step aside. Keeping me as CEO/club director does not benefit the club right now, he says.
“Manuel’s Decision”
Board chairman Robert Falck tells Sportbladet that he received the message in the morning.
– Manuel resigned early this morning. He communicated it to me.
But you had a meeting already last night?
– We had an unconditional discussion tonight at AIK’s office.
– It is Manuel’s decision. He has come to the conclusion that it is the best for AIK. He doesn’t feel he can do himself justice in this situation.
Several issues were raised at the meeting.
Was the coaching question discussed?
– The coaching issue was not discussed at all, it lies with Thomas (Berntsen, sports manager).
Was there anything else that was discussed?
– No, we probably had the discussion about Manuel.
Not what happened in the stands?
– Yes, it was up and a unanimous board dissents. AIK is not doing very well either on or off the pitch.
Do you know if there were any threats against Manuel?
– No, not what he told me last night.
Have you received threats or hate?
– No, I have received a lot of reactions, but I have only received support from members and supporters.
– The only thing we can do now is work hard and keep the AIK family together.
AIK also announces that Fredrik Söderberg will take over the role of CEO/club director for the time being.
Was on sick leave
Manuel Lindberg stepped in as CEO/club director on February 21, 2022.
Since then, he has had a tough period at the post. For a while, the club lacked a regular sports manager – which prompted Lindberg to temporarily take on that role as well.
The work with several different positions then led to Lindberg being on sick leave.
Sportbladet has applied for Manuel Lindberg
