Aifa, very few adverse reactions to vaccines (-39%) and 93.5% mild – Medicine – Ansa.it

Vaccines have been proven to be among the safest pharmaceutical products. In 2022, with approximately 19 million doses of vaccine administered, the surveillance system of the Italian Medicines Agency collected just over 9 thousand reports of suspected adverse reactions (47.8 reports for every 100 thousand doses was granted), with a decline of 39% compared to the previous year. More than 93.5% of the suspected reactions are mild and serious reactions are only 0.003%. In addition, the connection with deaths is excluded. These are the relevant data from a table from the Italian Medicines Agency published this morning which confirms the safety of the vaccines.

The report shows that the majority (93.5%) of adverse events related to vaccines are mild: fever, local reactions at the injection site; crying; irritability, anxiety and worry; diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain; general skin reactions, rash, urticaria; drowsiness, headache, convulsions. The remaining 6.5% are classified as severe reactions, with 1.6% requiring hospitalization. Side effects also tend to resolve quickly: at the time of reporting, 78% of suspected adverse events had already resolved without any sequelae, 8% were improving and 0.7% were in the recovery with after effects.

However, there are 3% who have not yet recovered, and for the remaining 10% the outcome has not been reported.
Among the reports, the file also notes 7 deaths after the vaccine was given: “In any case the information available did not allow the cause of death to be determined identification in the vaccine”, specifies the AIFA, which recalls that the “evaluation of the vaccine. The causal relationship between an adverse event and the administration of a vaccine, is a rather complicated procedure”: “no it is not enough, of course, that the event occurs after the vaccination but other possibilities must also be considered”.
