SK Zadruga Aich/Dob lost their penultimate game in the MEVZA League regular season at ACH Volley Ljubljana in three sets (18:25, 16:25, 22:25).

The Slovenian series champion is the defending champion and leader of the table, having only lost one set in nine games. Aich/Dob holds 19 points and has the semi-final ticket in its pocket since last week.

Since OK Calcit Kamnik scored a 3:0 (25:13, 25:22, 25:23) home win against VCA Amstetten NÖ, the Carinthians are now third ahead of OK Merkur Maribor, who have the same number of points. On Wednesday, Aich/Dob meets MOK Mursa Osijek in Ljubljana and Amstetten faces Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel in Kamnik.

Oberbank STEELVOLLEYS Linz-Steg also contests the last match in the Central European League on Wednesday evening. For the players of head coach Facundo Morando, the duel with the Slovenian champion Calcit Kamnik is an ideal test for the AVL Women hit on Saturday in Linz against UVC Holding Graz and the Austrian Volley Cup final on Monday in Innsbruck against TI-ROWA-Moser -volley.

VCA Amstetten with defeat in MEVZA against Slovenian runner-up

The last tournament in the Central European Volleyball League (MEVZA) began on Tuesday evening in Kamnik, just north of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. In the first match the Slovenian runner-up OK Calcit Kamnik was waiting. The hosts were able to prevail 3-0 and won 25-13, 25-22, 25-23 against the weakened Mostviertel team.

Because the team of neo-trainer Harry Brokking had to do without three regular players with top scorer Michael Czerwinski and the two middle blockers Franz Hüther and Robert Brzostowicz. “In the first set, we were probably still driving the bus in our heads, the other two sets were already close,” summarized VCA sports director Michael Henschke after the game.

After an almost catastrophic start for the Lower Austrians, they showed in the next two rounds that they can play on an equal footing with the Slovenians. “It runs a bit through our entire MEVZA season. It’s our turn, but we can’t decide the sets and games for ourselves yet,” Henschke explained. Above all, he found praise for his two young Austrians, Jonah Zelenka and Maximilian Schober.

“Jonah has already shown up several times in the MEVZA, always as a substitute for our top scorer. And Maximilian is coming back from a long-term injury, and above all he served very well today,” said the VCA sports director.

The final MEVZA game of the season will take place on Wednesday evening, with the opponent being Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel, who are also part of the tournament in Kamnik.
