Some of the software on the Internet is often developed as open source, and each software is subject to a license set by the developer. However, it is reported that an AI voice changer named Voice.ai was distributed in a license violation state, drawing attention.
Voice.ai is a real-time voice changer powered by AI that features offline operation. However, it was confirmed that the open source software Praat was embedded in the folder where it was installed. Prat is subject to GPLv3, a license that includes content clauses that acknowledge acquisition, use, modification, and redistribution and require the application of the same license to software including the corresponding software.
As Voice.ai was developed by integrating GPLv3-applied software, Voice.ai must also apply GPLv3 to allow modification or redistribution. However, in the Voice.ai Terms of Use, there is an item that prohibits copy distribution or sale to third parties, and software reuse, disassembly, decompilation, and reverse engineering are prohibited, which violates GPLv3.
When I reported the license issue to the Voice.ai official Discord server, I was asked to contact the support center by e-mail.
The complainant pointed out that more than 190 comments have been made to the Voice.ai licensing issue report. As a result, Voice.ai has quietly updated its license, but the GPLv3 violations still persist. Related information this placecan be found in
