AI researchers successfully develop GPT-4 Minecraft bot that writes its own code

JAKARTA – Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology researchers successfully built a minecraft bot that can explore and expand its capabilities in the game’s open world.

Reporting from Techcrunch, the difference with other bots, not Minecraft, writes its own code through trial and error and lots of GPT-4 queries.

“This experimental system is an example, where AI can move and act freely and deliberately in a simulated or real environment,” said the page, quoted on Sunday (4/6/2023).

Minecraft is a great place to test new breakthroughs in the real world, with simple and straightforward physics rules. However it is also complex and quite open.

“So there’s a lot to achieve or try. Purpose-built simulators are also great, but they have their limitations.”

Minedojo is a simulation framework built around Minecraft, because you can’t just plunk a random AI in there and expect to understand what all these blocks are doing.

“It also allows the models to be evaluated more or less objectively by seeing how well they do things, like building fences and mining diamonds,” he explained.

The Voyager excels at these tasks, as it performs far better than the only other model that comes close to Auto-GPT. But they have the same approach using GPT-4 to write code.

“Voyager, however, started out relatively naïve, and because of discovering things in the game, he had a bit of an internal conversation with GPT-4 about what it was supposed to do,” he said.
