At the Busan International Medical Device Exhibition
Industry revitalization conference held
On the 19th, the academic seminar hosted by the Korea Health Industry Association (Chairman Je-pil Yoon) concluded successfully at the 12th Busan International Medical Device Exhibition.
The Korean Health Industry Association academic seminar was held as the main event of the large-scale academic conference of ‘KIMES BUSAN 2024’, the Busan International Medical Equipment Exhibition, to improve public health, develop medical technology, and revitalize local medical and hospital-related industries. The pre-registration period is long. It received a lot of attention even before the start, with applications for participation far exceeding the planned number of participants.
In the first part of the topic presentation, Jinhyeong Lee, founder of LVIS, a leader in innovative technology in the field of brain disease diagnosis, appeared as the first speaker. This founder is the first Korean woman to become a tenured professor at Stanford University. The founder introduced ‘Neuromatch’, an AI-based brain disease diagnosis and treatment platform he developed himself, under the topic ‘Brain diseases are now discovered by AI: How is your brain?’ NeuroMatch is a technology that the founder, an electrical engineer, developed over 10 years to find out how the brain works over a period of 15 years and to effectively apply this to patients. It is attracting attention as a groundbreaking technology that can lead to overcoming brain diseases by assuming the human brain as an electric circuit and applying digital twin technology. Reflecting this, various medical field officials who visited the site also showed great interest.
Next, Professor Cho Yong-won of the Department of Neurology, who is currently serving as the director of the Epilepsy Center and the Director of the Brain Research Institute at Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital, gave a presentation on the topic ‘Healthy brain with AI, a new path for epilepsy and sleep disorders’, and professor emeritus and director of neurosurgery at Gachon University Gil Hospital. Professor Ian of Emedi Healthcare, who has been working as a medical specialist for over 35 years to combine new technologies such as AI and medicine, drew a great response with his series of presentations on the topic of ‘A new paradigm for brain health diagnosis in the AI era.’
The 4th and 5th presentations were a lecture on ‘Cranial Aneurysm Management Strategy Using AI/ML’ by Talos CEO Kim Taek-gyun, a former professor of neurosurgery at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital who developed AI that classifies high-risk brain aneurysms based on basic health examination data. and co-CEO Noh Yoo-heon of Imocog, a former professor at Chung-Ang University Medical School who is focusing on developing and commercializing digital treatment devices to lead the way in preventing and overcoming dementia, gave a lecture on ‘Changes in new cognitive impairment management and treatment systems through digital treatment devices’. This was carried out. Both companies showed a lot of achievements in a short period of time and received a great response.
In the second part of the panel discussion chaired by Professor Jong-young Yoon, founder Jin-hyung Lee, CEO Eon Lee, CEO Taek-gyun Kim, and CEO Yoo Heon Noh, who gave a lecture on the topic of the academic seminar in the first part, ‘Challenging the Limits of Brain Disease in the AI Era’, along with Je-pil Yoon from Korea The excitement at the site grew even hotter as the head of the Health Industry Association participated as a panelist and had a heated discussion on approaches to overcoming each brain disease and research and development results.
Chairman Yoon said, “Everyone who attended the event must have felt that there are many experts in various fields in Korea with truly world-class research results and technological capabilities. “Through today’s event, the Korea Health Industry Association will do its best to ensure that interest in brain diseases and AI leads to further development,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Korea Health Industry Association was launched last April to promote joint research, technology development, and industrial advancement to achieve a health industry powerhouse as Korea’s next-generation strategic business with experts in each field of the health industry, including doctors, entrepreneurs, and professors. Based on this, the association’s main goal is to support organic cooperation between industry, academia, research, and disease in various health industry fields to solve various social problems such as ultra-low birth rate and aging that Korean society faces.
