The researchers posed 12 common patient questions to the chatbots, including queries about the treatment’s mechanism, patient selection criteria, potential benefits, side effects, administration process, and cost.

The study found that ChatGPT-4 provided more accurate answers than Gemini (2.95 vs. ⁣2.73 on a 4-point⁤ scale), while Gemini’s responses were deemed ​more readable (2.79 vs. 2.94 on a 3-point ​scale). Both chatbots ‌achieved comparable conciseness scores.

Alarmingly, 17%​ of ChatGPT-4’s responses and​ 29% of Gemini’s responses were⁢ classified ‌as incorrect or ⁢partially correct. Gemini’s‍ answers contained substantially more misleading information than ChatGPT-4’s (p = ⁤0.039).

“AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini are‌ a promising ⁣step forward⁤ in making medical information more accessible.
