It’s official: Ahsoka is getting a second season. The Star Wars series is getting new episodes as Disney and Lucasfilm now announce. Of course, this news doesn’t really come as a surprise. The fact that Ahsoka will be extended for a second season has been an open secret for a few weeks now.
The announcement of season 2 was only a matter of time
For example, Lucasfilm had previously described the eighth episode as the season finale and not the series finale. In addition, an established insider reported in October 2023 that the sequel had already received the green light. The anticipation for season 2 was only recently dampened by leading actress Rosario Dawson, who said that no discussions had yet taken place.
Maybe Dawson was lying to us, maybe the conversations actually just happened now. Her statement at least implied that a release of new episodes could take some time. The official announcement does not say when Season 2 of Ahsoka might start on Disney Plus.
What else you should know about Ahsoka’s future
At the moment we can only speculate about a possible release date. What is certain is that showrunner Dave Filoni will be busy in his position as the new Lucasfilm CCO: Filoni has recently been deciding together on the future of Star Wars in cinemas and on Disney Plus.
Filoni is also still involved in the production of projects such as The Mandalorian & Grogu, his own Star Wars film and of course Ahsoka. For the second season of this then Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Sabine Wren) and Give it to Esfandi (Ezra Bridger) return.
The first season of Ahsoka was released by sudden death of Ray Stevenson (Baylan Skoll) overshadowed. What will happen next with his Star Wars character still remains to be seen. There was at least one diplomatic update recently after the tragic incident.
