Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan Old taro, the older the better. They have no plans to retire and continue playing in 2023.
This was revealed by Hendra who welcomed the increasingly tight 2023 season tournament. “In 2023 we will still play even though we are getting older,” Hendra said in his written statement on Sunday (12/11/2022).
However, Hendra/Ahsan won’t set any goals in every tournament and will want to play more relaxed. For the record, Hendra will turn 39 on Aug. 25, while Ahsan will turn 35 on Sept. 7.
“We won’t set any goals. We just want to enjoy every game,” said Hendra.
Hendra/Ahsan himself closed out the 2022 season by winning five runners-up in 16 individual tournaments.
Their last tournament, e.g BWF World Tour 2022 Finals in Bangkok, Thailand. Ahsan/Hendra finished second as they were defeated by Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan in the finals with scores of 17-21, 21-19 and 12-21
“Overall, we are very thankful that we can still make several finals in 2022, even if the results are always second,” said Ahsan.
“We know we’re not young anymore, so this (BWF World Tour Finals runner-up) is a good result.”
This year’s results are slightly better than last year. Because while participating in 12 individual and team tournaments, the world’s sixth-ranked duo could only finish second once at the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals (to be held January 27-31, 2021).
