Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan advanced to the top 16 Badminton Asia Championships 2023 after defeating Dev Ayyappan/Dhiren Ayyappan (United Arab Emirates) in straight games with a score of 21-14, 21-17.
Playing at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Wednesday (26/4), Ahsan/Hendra started the match well. After a 3-3 draw, they then pulled away 7-3 and led 11-7 at the interval.
After the break, The Daddies managed to maintain a relatively wide range of points from their opponent. Starting from 14-10, 18-12, and finally locked in a 21-14 victory in the first game. In the second game, the match was more balanced at the start.
Ahsan/Hendra trailed 1-3, then turned 7-4 ahead. Dev/Dhiren managed to equalize the score at 7-7, then led 8-7, but Ahsan/Hendra closed the interval with a score of 11-9.
After the break, Ahsan/Hendra widened the gap to 17-12, then 19-13, but Dev/Dhiren closed the gap to 16-19. In the end their efforts were not enough because Ahsan/Hendra managed to lock in a 21-17 victory in the second game.
In the round of 16, Ahsan/Hendra will meet Ren Xiang Yu/Tan Qiang (China) who advanced after defeating Japanese representatives, Akira Koga/Taichi Saito with a score of 21-19, 21-17.
The women’s doubles duet failed to achieve a similar result Lanny Tria Mayasari/Ribka Sugiarto after losing to Gayatri Gopichand Pullela/Treesa Jolly (India) 21-17, 17-21, 18-21 in a fight that lasted more than one hour.
