Ahok says Jakarta Gubernatorial Candidate election is an opportunity to differentiate between buffalo and bulls

PDIP has not yet announced the candidates for governor and deputy governor of Jakarta after the KPU revised the rules according to the decision of the Constitutional Court.

“Let’s wait, okay? This is Ms. Mega trying to see who understands ideology and who gets a chance. “To a large extent, this is an opportunity to differentiate buffalo from bulls,” Ahok told Tempo, Monday, August 26 2024.

PDIP will announce the third batch of regional chief candidate couples this afternoon at PDIP DPP office, Menteng, Central Jakarta. However, Ahok said that PDIP will not name its gubernatorial candidate for the Jakarta Pilkada today.

“The schedule is for Banten, East Nusa Tenggara, etc. excluding Jakarta, West Java and East Java. Central Java today,” Ahok told Tempo, Monday, August 26 2024.

Ahok has not confirmed whether Jakarta and the rest of the provinces will be announced tomorrow.

The decision of the Constitutional Court has paved the way for PDIP to announce its gubernatorial candidate in Jakarta. Through Decision No. 60/PUU-XXII/2024 dated August 20, the Constitutional Court reduced the threshold for nomination requirements for regional heads. Political parties or party coalitions in Jakarta now do not need to fill 22 DPRD seats to nominate candidates, but they only need to achieve 7.5 percent of the valid vote share.

This decision also opens the possibility for Anies Baswedan to be nominated by the PDIP. Anies name is said to be carried by PDIP. The names Rano Karno and Hendrar Prihadi have appeared as companions for Anies.

Previously, PDIP politician Masinton Pasaribu said his party would still promote Anies Baswedan if he​​​​​​​​was prevented from revising the provincial election law. He confirmed that he would join Anies to register with the KPU based on the legal basis of the decision of the Constitutional Court.

“God willing, Anies (Anies Rasyid Baswedan) will be. Therefore, on the 27th (August), if PDIP nominates Mr. Anies Baswedan, we will join him en masse to the Jakarta KPU. “We are using the decision of the Constitutional Court,” said Masinton at the DPR Center after the meeting of the Legislative Group, Wednesday, August 21 2024.
