“Maybe some will be closed because they are very inefficient. Therefore, we need new ones as integrated refineries,” Ahok said in the 2020 International Convention On Indonesian Upstream Oil & Gas which was held virtually, Wednesday (2/12).
Ahok added that the two locations which are currently projected to be developed as integrated petrochemical refineries are the Tuban Refinery and the Balongan Refinery.
Ahok explained that in encouraging this integration, Pertamina also opened options for cooperation with potential investors.
According to him, investors can invest in the petrochemical refinery complex. For this step, Ahok even ensured that Pertamina was ready to partner with minority shareholders.
“Investors can bring their crude oil to Indonesia, become suppliers and Pertamina guarantees them to buy them at market prices,” said Ahok.
However, Ahok did not want to specify which refineries could potentially be closed.
So far, Pertamina has plans to develop the capacity of 4 refineries and build a new refinery. With this addition, the refinery processing capacity will increase to 1.8 million bpd.
