TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero) Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok admitted that he had been called by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to then be appointed as one of the candidates for Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN).
“To be honest, when IKN was about to be formed, Pak Jokowi had already called, I was one of the candidates for Head of the IKN Authority at that time,” said Ahok when met at an event entitled ‘Ahok is Back’ in the South Jakarta area, Thursday, February 8 2024.
Ahok explained that at that time he advised Jokowi to form the IKN Law as the first step to take so that investors would be interested in investing there. At that time he also mentioned that historically, IKN should be in Central Kalimantan.
That way, said Ahok, IKN development does not need to go through a massive land acquisition process. “Suddenly everyone decided to decide on IKN in East Kalimantan. Just use Balikpapan and its surroundings, because Pertamina’s assets are thousands of hectares,” he said.
Nevertheless, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta said that in general his party approves of IKN. However, what the government must immediately pay attention to is the issue of land acquisition which is feared to be stalled.
“For me, IKN is okay. However, there is no need to change the land. Because it can be used in Central Kalimantan or in Balikpapan owned by Pertamina,” he said.

On that occasion, Ahok also said that he had been interested in becoming Director General of Customs and Excise with a number of strategies that he had prepared. “I guarantee that smuggling will stop causing so many layoffs, all sales will stop, all taxes will fall, until the country will go bankrupt.”
If he becomes Director General of Customs and Excise, said Ahok, there will be no provincial minimum wage (UMP). However, all of that is too late considering the limited age requirements. “I can’t be Director General of Customs and Excise anymore, I’m past my age, that was the story 4 years ago,” he said.
Ahok, through an upload on his social media account on Friday last week, February 2 2024, announced proof of his resignation letter from the President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero). He said his resignation was related to his support for the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md pair.
