Chairman of the Winning Party Elections Nasdem For the Jakarta-Banten area, Effendi Choirie assessed that the Commissioner of PT Pertamina, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok no need to run as a candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta in DKI gubernatorial election next year 2024.
It is known, Ahok had served as Governor of DKI Jakarta in 2014-2017 ago. He replaced the position of Joko Widodo who advanced and was elected President in the 2014 Presidential Election.
“But for us, for Nasdem, Ahok is done. At least in my opinion. There’s no need to think about or dream of becoming governor of DKI anymore. That’s the time we shouldn’t have that thought,” said the man who is familiarly called Gus Choi to CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (7/1).
Gus Choi thought that Ahok should naturally focus on managing Pertamina rather than running again as a contestant in the Pilkada.
He was worried that Ahok would create a scene and spark controversy again if he re-elected as Cagub DKI. According to him, Jakarta currently needs a leader who is not controversial in order to maintain peace in society.
“The leader is expected to keep his mouth awake. We don’t want his mouth to keep slipping and being interpreted differently. We don’t want to be noisy again like that time,” he said.
On the other hand, Gus Choi revealed that NasDem plans to appoint General Treasurer of the DPP NasDem Ahmad Sahroni and former South Tangerang Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany as candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta in 2024.
For him, Sahroni-Airin is a young person who has the capital to lead Jakarta in the future.
“Who is that? Yes, young people with the best quality of the nation’s sons and daughters who we judge have sufficient capital to become leaders. An example for NasDem in DKI Sahroni, outside NasDem Airin. When leading South Tangerang, it’s pleasant, calm,” he said.
It is known that Ahok had run again in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election. At that time he was paired with Djarot Saiful Hidayat. However, this pair suffered defeat.
Along with the momentum of the Pilkada, Ahok was sentenced to two years in prison in a blasphemy case in 2017. At that time, he quoted Al Maida’s letter 52 while speaking in the Thousand Islands. At that time, Ahok spoke in his capacity as governor and would run as a candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta in the 2017 gubernatorial election.
