Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
President Commissioner Pertamina Basuki Tjahaja Purnama aka Ahok indicates fuel oil (BBM) premiums will be eliminated next year.
According to him, the deletion was done because the premium sales contribution was small. He explained that currently 80 percent of Pertamina’s fuel sales are supported by Pertalite fuel.
“The sales (premium) are small. Pertalite is almost 80 percent of total fuel sales,” Ahok told CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (27/12) evening.
Because of that contribution, he denied Pertalite will also be removed. He ensured that Pertalite would still be sold and not reduced. In fact, he thinks that Pertalite should be subsidized when the premium is removed.
“It will still be sold and not reduced if it is Pertalite. Subsidies can be switched to Pertalite. That’s what it should be if it is a fuel subsidy,” he said.
But unfortunately, Ahok was reluctant to explain how much the proposed subsidy for Pertalite was. “Technical matters can be submitted to the board of directors,” he said.
Like Ahok, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has also indicated that it will remove premium fuel types. The proof is that the government continues to encourage people to make the transition from using premium fuel to pertalite.
“We are entering a transition period where premium RON 88 will be replaced with pertalite RON 90, before finally we will use environmentally friendly fuels,” said Director of Downstream Oil and Gas Business Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Soerjaningsih, as quoted by Antara, Wednesday (12/22). ).
This transfer of fuel is intended so that Indonesia will gradually make a transition to clean energy that is more environmentally friendly.
Soerja said that until now there are only seven countries that still use RON 88 fuel, and Indonesia is no exception. In fact, many people have abandoned premium because the quality is not better than RON 90 or more.
The switch from premium to Pertalite is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 14 percent.
