Ahok Ensures Pertalite Will Not Be Abolished Next Year

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Pertamina President Commissioner Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok ensure fuel oil (BBM) type pertalite will continue to be sold and not reduced. The reason is that Pertalite supports 80 percent of Pertamina’s fuel sales.

In contrast to premium, which has a small sales contribution, the discourse on the abolition of this type of fuel has emerged.

Ahok even asked the government and the DPR to provide subsidies for pertalite if premium sales were to be abolished.

“It will still be sold and not reduced if it is pertalite. The subsidy can be switched to pertalite. That’s what it should be if it is a fuel subsidy,” Ahok told CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (27/12) night.

However, the former governor of DKI was reluctant to explain how much the proposed subsidy for Pertalite was.

“Technical matters can go to the board of directors,” he said

Previously, Ahok hinted that the sale of premium fuel types would be phased out next year. The reason is because the contribution of premium sales is small.

“Sales (premium) are small. Pertalite is almost 80 percent of total fuel sales,” he said.

Similarly, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has also indicated that it will remove Premium. This can be seen from the government’s efforts to continue to encourage people to make the transition from using premium fuel to pertalite.

This transfer of fuel is intended so that Indonesia will gradually make a transition to clean energy that is more environmentally friendly.

According to him, the transition from premium to pertalite is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 14 percent.

Furthermore, Soerja said that currently there are only seven countries that still use RON 88 fuel, including Indonesia. In fact, many people have abandoned premium because the quality is not better than RON 90 or more.
