Ahok denies intense contact with Anies

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Field denied that he was in intense contact with him Ann Baswedan. He said he had only met Anies three times since his release from prison.

“I only met Mr. Anies after leaving 3 times,” Ahok said when met Tempo after attending the Ask Ahok Anything (A3) event in Kota Kasablanka, South Jakarta, on Saturday, August 3 2024.

Ahok said that his first meeting with Anies happened when members of the DKI Jakarta DPRD were formed. Then, Ahok explained, the meeting was held again at a hotel in Pondok Indah area, South Jakarta.

In addition, Ahok said that the last meeting with Anies took place when they attended a wedding in the middle of July. Ahok admitted that he had taken a picture with Anies.

“Mr Anies asked, ‘What phone number is this?’. Then I gave the number to Mr Anies. He wrote it down. When I came home, I got a WA (WhatsApp) message), ‘Test . Anies’,” he said.

Ahok said that Anies had invited him to arrange a meeting. But, Ahok said, that meeting had not been held yet.

Meanwhile, Ahok and Anies are figures who are both included in the Jakarta gubernatorial candidate market. Ahok became the strongest Indonesian Democratic Party (PDIP) team to move forward Jakarta Regional Election Meanwhile, Anies has received the support of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

Before that, Anies admitted that his relationship with Ahok was very good. He said he had communicated with Ahok through WhatsApp.
