The result of a government with the N-VA mainly boils down to a Vlaams Belang push from three to eighteen seats, said chairman of the Brussels PS Federation Ahmed Ahmed Laaouej, for the attention of the CD&V .
In federal discussions, the Flemish Christian Democrat party is currently still opposed to forming a government without the N-VA.
Before the Brussels activists of the PS gathered Sunday afternoon for a more festive than political program on the occasion of the New Year, Mr. Laaouej also recognized the turbulent nature of the news of the Federation of Socialists of the Region- capital linked to the recent exclusion of deputy Emir Kir.
This is “a clear and perfectly understood signal” of the need for socialists to be “blameless”. “The sanitary cordon vis-à-vis the far right can not suffer from any exception. None of us, whatever his status, can ignore it. The far right is an idea nauseating, to fight wherever it comes from, “he said.
“The CD&V, at this stage is still installed in the idea that nothing is possible without the N-VA, for fear perhaps of making a bad electoral choice and for fear of what could, perhaps, happen in the North of the country. I, for my part, have only one question to ask them: what was the result of a government with the N-VA? A Vlaams Belang who went from 3 deputies to 18 deputies in the Federal Parliament ” , declared the president of the Brussels socialists, in the context of the federal crisis.
Beyond this argument, the president of the Brussels socialists pinpointed a decline in the field of democratic values illustrated by repeated attacks on lawyers, magistrates, unions, and journalists. He spoke of a stagnating economy, “social setbacks on all levels, endangered healthcare, an increase in precariousness and even a budget hole of more than 12 billion euros”.
Not without recalling the priorities of the PS – such as minimum pensions at 1,500 euros, the raising of the lowest social benefits, the refinancing of social security and an increase in the minimum wage -, he asked “the CD&V and other parties to goodwill “to set a course for Belgium with” a policy of economic and social recovery and a government that will restore the strength of democratic values ”.
