ROTTERDAM – Syrian asylum seeker Ahmad al-K. considers it his ‘fate’ that the Netherlands has kept him in custody for two years on suspicion of war crimes. He sees the destruction of his life as inevitable for someone who “stands up to a dictator who is worse than a murderer.”
