Indonesian Doubles Duo Prepares for World Tour Finals While Competing in National Championships
Jakarta –
Men’s doubles partners Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani are gearing up for the prestigious World Tour Finals (WTF) while simultaneously representing their respective clubs in the 2024 National Badminton Championships in Jakarta.
"We are preparing for both the WTF and balancing that with our responsibility to our clubs," Reza said on Monday. "We want to perform well for both."
Reza acknowledged that he wouldn’t be competing in every match of the National Championships, opting for a strategic approach in order to focus on the upcoming WTF.
“I’ve spoken to my team about prioritizing the WTF because it’s a high-stakes tournament," Reza explained. "I’ll play as many matches as I can at the National Championship, but my focus remains on the WTF."
The national competition, which takes place every two years in Rawamangun, Jakarta (December 3-8), offers a unique challenge for Sabar and Reza as they are not official members of the national training center (Pelatnas).
Unlike their Pelatnas counterparts who are prohibited from participating in the National Championships, Sabar and Reza are balancing both tournaments.
“We already have a training program leading up to the WTF," Reza said. "Competing in the National Championship will serve as a way to stay match-sharp without disrupting our plans."
Despite separate training due to club commitments, Sabar and Reza are confident their partnership remains strong.
announced they will not train together in Jakarta but will regroup in China just before the WTF.
"There’s no time to practice together right now," Reza explained, revealing that he will be flying to China on December 9th, after the National Championship concludes. "We’ll meet up in China before the tournament."
The duo secured their spot at the WTF after their impressive runner-up finish at the 2024 China Masters tournament in November. They are aiming for a strong performance, with Reza admitting, "Remember, " The target is to reach at least the semi-finals. But we don’t want pressure."
Returning to the National Championship will be a unique experience for the pair, as they bring their international talents back to the domestic scene.
Alison stills participates and the player looks forward to contributing again, sharing their deep whiskun증 with their teammates, after a journey marked triumphantly throughout the tournament.
They compete for their clubs.
Sabar represents Exist while Reza wrestles as part of Jaya Raya Jakarta.
"(Here) we will do our best to do them proud," Reza told reporters.
