“The advantage we have in Europe is that we always play high-level matches between us, such as the Nations League for example,” Mbappe said in May.
“When we came to the World Cup we were ready, while Brazil and Argentina don’t have this level in South America. Football is not as advanced as in Europe. That’s why European nations have always won in the last World Cups.”
Mbappe’s statement was then asked of Emiliano Martinez ahead of the 2022 World Cup final. Martinez said Mbappe shouldn’t have said because he had never played in South America.
“He doesn’t know enough about football,” said Emi Martinez Metro.
“He has never played in South America. When you don’t have this experience, better not talk about it.”
