Águas do Alto Minho store in Caminha vandalized

The Caminha facilities of the company Águas do Alto Minho were vandalized during the night, confirmed O MINHO from a local authority source.

The store’s main store, located at Largo Dr. Bento Coelho da Rocha, was grappled with insults due to the controversy over the price increase for consumers.

The image of the vandalized storefront circulated on social networks this morning, having been shared by the city councilwoman, Liliana Silva (PSD), considering the act as “regrettable and strongly objectionable”.

“This is not how indignation is shown,” he added, suggesting other forms of protest, such as putting “white handkerchiefs on doors or on balconies”.

Contacted by O MINHO, GNR does not confirm the presentation of a criminal complaint by the company.

This company, which started operating in January, comprises seven of the ten municipalities in the district of Viana. Ponte da Barca, Monção and Melgaço did not join the initiative carried out by Águas de Portugal.

The increase in water billing in the seven adhering municipalities is causing indignation in the population, a reason that must have led to the act of vandalism this Saturday.

Billing errors are also making consumers angry, as was the case with a resident of Vila Praia de Âncora, who was presented with an invoice of around 50 thousand euros. The company eventually assumed it was a system error.
