The Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) issued an information bulletin this day in which it highlights that after five days of work to put out the forest fire of the Agua volcano in the municipality of Santa María de Jesús, Sacatepéquez This is 60% controlled and 30% liquidated.
According to information from the inter-institutional Command Post in said town, progress in the control and liquidation of the incident is thanks to the actions articulated in land and air operations.
“This has allowed the discharge of more than 48,000 gallons of water to combat the forest fire, which has unified the efforts of more than 30 public institutions, private companies, non-governmental organizations and community leaders that continue to operate in the area,” they describe.

Likewise, the institution specifies that the coordinated actions in the field under the methodology of the Incident Command System (SCI) are aimed at minimizing personal injury to brigade members of the first response institutions that combat said environmental emergency. .
“Personnel who work under established periods of operations receive medical attention and permanent food, which guarantees the continuity of the tactical response on the volcano,†they point out.
Finally, Conred informs the Guatemalan population that it reiterates its inter-institutional commitment to putting out the 27 active forest fires nationwide and to that extent remembers that if residents know of a forest fire, they must report it to CONRED’s telephone number 119 to coordinate the response actions that are necessary.
