Agricultural Insurance is Important to Protect Rice Plants and Maintain Farmers’ Income

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Ministry of Agriculture has never stopped inviting farmers to take advantage of agricultural insurance, particularly Paddy Farmers’ Insurance (AUTP). Because with insurance the farmers get insurance to become investment capital again, they will continue to be maintained even though they experience crop failure.

Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo said that farmers will certainly suffer losses if they fail to harvest and do not take advantage of insurance.

“Without insurance, farmers will not receive compensation if the harvest fails. This means that the production costs they have spent will just disappear,” he said, Monday (24/5/2021).

Director General of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities (PSP) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ali Jamil, expressed the same thing.

“Many things can disrupt farmers’ crops, even lead to crop failure. Such as climate change and attack by plant pests. This condition must be anticipated,” he explained.

According to Ali, the Ministry of Agriculture realizes this potential. For that, farmers are invited to take advantage of insurance.

“We don’t want agricultural productivity to be disturbed. For that, we initiated agricultural insurance to protect farmers from losing money when a crop failure occurs. If this happens, the insurance will pay coverage of Rp. 6 million per hectare for land that has been insured. The funds can be used. used as capital for replanting, “he explained.

This statement was supported by Jasindo Insurance. According to Jasindo Insurance Company Secretary, Cahyo Adi, insurance will protect farmers from the risk of crop failure.

“Jasindo Insurance, as part of the Indonesian Financial Group (IFG) Insurance and Guarantee Holding, is ready to fully support the farmer protection program initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture through AUTP. This insurance program can be a solution in the midst of current uncertain weather conditions, “said Cahyo Adi.
