Agricultural food exports from the EU are worth more than 97 billion euros in January-May 2024. – 2024-09-03 12:57:52

The EU exports the most to the UK, and the first importer is Brazil. The total volume of imports is 69 billion euros

Total agri-food exports from the EU reached €97.4 billion in the period January – May 2024. Compared to the same period in 2023, the increase is 2%. The latest monthly figure (May 2024) showed that the EU’s overall agricultural trade surplus remained stable at €5 billion, the EC said today, publishing the latest report on agri-food trade.

The United Kingdom is the leading export destination, followed by the United States, which saw a 9% increase due to higher olive oil prices. China reported a 10% decline, mainly in pork, grains and dairy products.

On the other hand, exports to Brazil increased by €208 million (+21%), driven by higher olive and olive oil prices.

Exports to Russia decreased by 15% (463 million euros), especially for spirits. Olive oil exports rose by 60% (+1.2 billion euros), while the value of cereal exports fell by 14% (937 million euros) due to lower prices despite higher volumes. Vegetable oil exports also fell by 37% (€654 million) due to lower prices and volumes.

The import of agricultural food into the EU is for 14.7 billion eurosup 3% from May 2023. Cumulative imports from January to May reached €69.6 billion, a stable level compared to 2023.

Despite the 4% drop, Brazil remains the largest supplier, followed by the UK and Ukraine. Imports from Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Tunisia rose, led by higher cocoa and olive oil prices. In contrast, imports from Australia, Indonesia and Canada fell sharply.

Imports of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices increased by 26% (€2.3 billion) and fruit and nuts by +9% (€855 million), while cereals and oilseeds saw a significant decline due to lower prices and volumes.
