Environmental for the Central Valley of the O’Higgins Region, as reported by the regional director of CONAF, Óscar Galdames Flores.
The authority also noted that the communes of Las Cabras, Peumo and Pichidegua may continue to request controlled burning notices until April 30, the date on which DS 100 of 1990 of the MMA comes into force, which restricts the use of fire. in these territories until August 31 of the current year.
It should be noted that the use of fire for the burning of agricultural and forestry waste is governed by the Fire Burn Regulation, a regulation that is administered by CONAF and that allows requesting burning notices in the communes of Chépica, Palmilla, Peralillo, Nancagua. and Santa Cruz. This procedure can be carried out until November 30 in these communes, provided that the technical authority establishes it. Starting in May, burning can be resumed in Pumanque, Lolol, Pichilemu, La Estrella, Litueche, Marchigüe, Navidad and Paredones until the dates stipulated in the controlled burning calendar.
In addition, it must be kept in mind that in the fall and winter there are less favorable conditions for the occurrence of forest fires and that is why the use of fire in a controlled manner is possible, however, the population must be calm because CONAF, carries out constant monitoring that evaluates these conditions, commented the regional director.
SANCTIONS
On this occasion, Óscar Galdames called for community responsibility in the use of fire, considering that controlled burning is not the only option to eliminate waste.
For example, there is the Incentive Program for the Sustainability of Agricultural Soils, an incentive that can be accessed in the SAG sector offices and INDAP area agencies.
Regarding the responsible use of fire, the regional director also highlighted that causing fires that affect forests, protected areas, etc.; In addition to burning fire, violating current regulations, resulting in the destruction of forests, cornfields, pastures, mountains, fences, plantations or xerophytic formations (succulents and bushes), they are punished with prison sentences and fines.

WHAT IS A CONTROLLED BURN?
Óscar Galdames explained that a controlled burn is the responsible use of fire to eliminate vegetation, agricultural or forestry waste in a directed manner, in a previously delimited area, using pre-established techniques that allow the fire to be kept under control.
He added that this involves knowing the weather conditions for the day and time the burning will take place. Additionally, it is essential to consider wind direction and speed, temperature and relative humidity predicted for the date and time of the burn.
To obtain this notice, the interested community must have its property registered with CONAF. The procedure has no cost and must be carried out in the receiving offices that are arranged for these purposes, with the role of the property, name and location, identity card, current ownership certificate issued by the Real Estate Registrar of the place of location of the property. property or title that proves possession of the property. If you do not have this last document, you can present the contribution payment stub or income tax return.
In the event that the application is presented by the legal representative, you must also present the deed that accredits the status of legal representative and if you are a tenant, you must add your identity card and the rental contract.
The authority highlighted that those interested in carrying out controlled burning must go to the burning notice receiving offices enabled by CONAF for such purposes. In the region there are seven, five of these are located in Corporation offices, in addition to two other offices located in municipal premises.
