Agreement on universal banking service for non-digital customers

Minister of Economy Pier-Yves Dermagne (PS) adds that agreements have also been made about price increases. If a bank charges less than 60 euros per year, it may increase the price by a maximum of 6 euros per year (without going above 60 euros).

“We have created a specific banking service here for a very vulnerable group, because we know that they are the least mobile consumer group in the banking world,” said State Secretary for Consumer Protection Eva De Bleeker (Open VLD). She promises that in a next step there will be price comparisons for banking services, so that consumers can choose the best package for their profile.

With the agreement, the banks are also committed to informing consumers even better about their offer and the rates, adds the banking federation Febelfin. This applies, for example, to the bank switching service, which is not equally known to everyone. The new and the old bank mutually arrange the transfer of current and/or savings accounts, without the payment orders being interrupted. In 2020, 72,308 customers changed banks.

The banks that will offer the universal banking service are: Argenta, Axa Bank Belgium, Belfius, Beobank, BNP Paribas Fortis, bpost bank, CBC, CPH, Crelan, ING, KBC, KBC Brussels and vdk bank.
