The Tax and Customs Administration compensates parents who are disadvantaged, but that is not always enough. They have accumulated debt, lost their home or job and sometimes fell ill. Van Huffelen wanted to work with the municipalities to see how these people can best be helped.

Municipalities are closer to their residents and can offer broad assistance. Exactly how that will take shape will be worked out in the coming week, reports Finance. Peter Heijkoop of the VNG and Van Huffelen are happy with the agreements. “This is an important outcome for the thousands of parents who have been duped in the childcare allowance issue.”
