The Long Beach Department announced that it will end its contract with Metro Los Angeles with which the surveillance service is provided in the public transportation system, amid concern for the safety of passengers on trains and stations.
The date Long Beach police terminate their service agreement with Metro It is December 30, 2024.
“We value our partnership with the Long Beach Police Departmentone of three contracted law enforcement agencies that provide service to Metro,” the public transportation service agency said in a statement.

“We will continue to work closely with the Long Beach Police Department to ensure the safety of our stations and customers in line with our other police resources,” Metro Los Angeles added.
In addition to Long Beach police, Metro contracts for policing with the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Possible monthly contracts
According to the KTLA network, after the current agreement ends, Metro Los Angeles could extend monthly contracts with Long Beach policebut that could not be extended beyond March 2025.

The termination of the contract between the agency and Long Beach police comes as Metro Los Angeles works to develop its own police corporation, a goal it set earlier this year. but it is expected to be completed within five years.
The Long Beach Police Department said its officers can respond to reports of incidents and emergencies on buses, trains and Metro Los Angeles stations. even after the current contract endsbut they will no longer be part of a regular patrol.
The corporation reported that The decision was made after significant deliberation and analysis of crime statistics, personnel considerations, and contractual obligations.

“Once the contract expires, We will no longer have LBPD officers on trains and stationsunless emergency service calls are sent,” he said.
With the termination of this contract, LBPD may relocate city policing nine police officer positions, two sergeant positions and one lieutenant position.
Due to these changes, they could lead to response time, considering that in some cases it has been up to 4 hours for non-emergency calls, such as burglaries.
