The case is being updated.

At 20.50 on Monday, the police in the East report that young people use violence against the police on Stortorget in Fredrikstad.

– It started with a police patrol reprimanding a minor affair with someone. The patrol is then attacked by a few dozen young people, who, among other things, start pushing the police. Then it escalates, and it starts to be bottle and stone throwing.

This is what operations manager Terje Marstad tells VG. Several patrols were called, and at 21.18, when VG talks to the police, between 15 and 20 police patrols are on the scene, he states.

He has no information that anyone is injured yet.

– The police reported that several hundred young people were aggressive. But there is no question that several hundred young people have used violence against the police?

– No, I do not mean that. But there were several hundred present. That is why I have given notice to those who have only been there to watch and are curious to pull away, says the operations manager.

The police announced early on Twitter that there was talk of several hundred aggressive young people, but have thus moderated in retrospect.

VG’s photographer on the spot witnessed a young man jump up and kick a policeman, before he ran away. The situation has calmed down by 9.30 pm, but there is still a massive police presence on the spot.

At 9.50 pm, the police report that Stortorget has mostly been cleared, but that they do not have control over everything yet.

– The helicopter assists us in keeping track of the air. Several are brought in for arrest.
