Fight against processionary caterpillars: treatment in progress throughout the wooded area of the urban area
As part of the management of its tree heritage, the city has launched a vast treatment program against processionary caterpillars.
For several days, specialized teams have been intervening during the night to limit the proliferation of these harmful insects, whose presence can harm the health of trees and constitute a danger for humans and domestic animals.
The treatments are carried out with a biological product based on Bacillus thuringiensis, a bacteria without health risk, which acts upon its ingestion by the caterpillars.
This operation, carried out exclusively on public property, is essential to preserve the 5,371 pines and cedars spread across the 20 municipalities of the agglomeration.
It should last for a period of approximately four weeks.
The treatment is part of an ongoing management plan, because several interventions are necessary to guarantee the health of the tree heritage and protect the population from the harmful effects of processionary caterpillars.
