(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 07 – The agents discover and seize four cell phones and the inmates send them to hospital: it happened in the Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi prison, in the Avellino area. According to what was announced by the USPP delegate Maurizio Repola, five policemen were forced to seek medical attention in hospital, with a prognosis of between 5 and 3 days. “We have been in a state of agitation for two weeks now – recalls Repola – and we have repeatedly denounced that the Sant’Angelo prison from a model institution with a treatment vocation with working prisoners and laboratories of excellence has now become a receptacle for prisoners among the most troublemakers coming from other institutions and difficult to manage”. According to the USPP delegate “the presence of this type of prisoner, in addition to compromising internal order and security, also strongly influences the activities and rehabilitation paths of the other prisoners”. “Nowadays a daily war is fought in all prisons”, recall Giuseppe Moretti and Ciro Auricchio, respectively president and regional secretary of the USPP, who once again ask for technologically advanced tools, such as signal inhibitors (jammers), “to shield penitentiary institutions and combat the phenomenon of mobile phones entering prison”. “In Sant’Angelo, only thanks to the efforts made by the penitentiary police is it possible to maintain order and internal security: it is necessary to intervene with suitable organisational, structural and systematic measures to prevent the penitentiary institutions from collapsing completely”, conclude Auricchio and Moretti.
