The confusion came to light by accident when a judge in a case in 2021 had the seized drugs re-analysed. This only yielded building material, not an ounce of coke left.
French justice has not revealed how much cocaine went missing in this case. The two suspects were arrested on Thursday.
The case evokes memories of the disappearance of at least 48.5 kilos of cocaine from one of the most secure warehouses of the Paris police headquarters. This would have resulted in a consignment of drugs worth 2 million euros.
Condemned
In 2017, an officer traced via video images was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment. The stolen cocaine was never recovered.
