A police officer in Sassenheim in South Holland has been temporarily suspended due to an incident at his home. In the night from Monday to Tuesday, he was visited by a group of young people and threatened one of them with an axe. Colleagues have arrested the agent on suspicion of threats.
According to the police, the officer wanted to arrest one of the youths. “On images you can see how the officer, who was not working at the time, pulls one of the young people by her coat and orders her to sit on her knees.”
Deputy district chief Danny Williams speaks of intense images. “This is not the behavior we expect from our colleagues. This is not the police we want to be.”
The corps does not know why the young people visited the agent at his home at night. Both the youths and the officer wanted the police to come to his home. His colleagues then arrested him.
The police are launching an internal investigation to see if there has been any dereliction of duty. The case will also be submitted to the Public Prosecution Service. The officer involved is not allowed to work during the investigation.
