It has been in the air for a while, but since Saturday Alireza Jahanbakhsh is officially Feyenoord. The attacker has signed a contract for three seasons, with an option for a fourth season. The transfer was a bit tricky.
Earlier there were rumors that Feyenoord paid only one million euros for the Iranian, but that is debunked by Amir Hashemi, the agent of Jahanbakhsh. “I’ve read some amounts and have to say it’s ridiculous and funny at the same time. I don’t know where these kinds of amounts come from,” Hashemi says in conversation with Merhnews. The exact transfer fee is therefore unknown, but trainer Arne Slot had “not the impression on Saturday that we had to dig deep into our pockets.”
Feyenoord and Brighton & Hove Albion had been working together for no less than two and a half months before the deal was finalized. “It was a difficult process,” Hashemi said of the transfer. “Alireza still had a two-year contract. They paid 25 million euros for him and then it makes sense that they will not let him go soon. When we put Feyenoord’s offer on the table, we looked at all aspects. His move from England to Feyenoord took about two and a half months. It was important for both me and Alireza that the club compete for the prizes. Of the three clubs that were serious about him, Feyenoord met all the conditions,” Hashemi said.
