Agent charged with murder of black American George Floyd released on bail

Floyd, a 46-year-old black American, died in Minneapolis on May 25, after Chauvin pressed his knee to his neck for nearly nine minutes. His death has sparked a historic wave of rallies and protests against police brutality and racism in recent months in the United States and elsewhere.

Chauvin, 44, was remanded in custody since May 31. He is being prosecuted for murder. Three former colleagues of Chauvin who were present at the time of the facts are also on trial for complicity in manslaughter. They were previously released under conditions pending trial.
