With almost a quarter of a century on its neck, the ancient game series Age of Empires is still a favorite among many strategy fans, but Age of Empires III with launch year 2005 is still the latest full-size game. In 2017, however, Microsoft announced that the successor to the suffix “IV” is coming. Since the unveiling, however, it has been relatively quiet about what is to come.
Now the silence is finally broken, through more proper videos showing Age of Empires IV. In the same turn, the launch window for the autumn of 2021 will also be nailed on the game series’ Youtube channel there are now clips that give a closer look at it Chinese civilization and Dehlisultanate, while one more extensive clips exhibit gameplay which also includes the British and Mongol empires.
The latter film clip shows exploration, urban planning, ambush and sieges, which range from the early Middle Ages to industrialism. This translates to the journey from primitive piles to cities with meter-thick stone walls – fortifications that can be climbed with a little will and armored combat elephants, muskets and fireworks. Anyone who is curious campaigns and naval battle also has short films to watch.
As previously known, the development of the game’s studio World’s Edge and Relic Entertainment, which is part of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios, was managed. It remains to be seen if this means that even console players can take part in the game. With approximately six months left until launch, details such as system requirements and demonstrations of more aspects will be presented in the near future.
