Agder police district will use electroshock weapons. The weapon will be introduced gradually from now until the autumn.
– Using a new means of force is not something the police take lightly. We seek to solve the assignments with the least possible use of force and with the least intrusive means of force. Then it is extra important that the police have several options before they have to use firearms, says Bård Austad, head of the joint unit for operational services in Agder police district.
Electroshock weapons have been tested in several police districts over the past three years.
– The introduction of electroshock weapons should not change the way the police work, but the police will have access to an additional means of force that can help resolve the situation before it escalates to the use of firearms, he says.
The weapon system that the police are introducing is the Axon Taser T7.
