The documentary “Against the Current” shows swimmer and human rights activist Sara Mardini after being released on bail from a Greek prison. Film producer Charly Wai Feldman accompanies Mardini for four years in her fight for justice and freedom.
After the film there is a fishbowl discussion with a lawyer from the Refugee Law Clinic Gießen and an activist from the Seebrücke. They provide brief information about the legal situation and the experiences of activist work in refugee aid. In addition, the planned GEAS reform is also discussed, which would curb the so-called irregular migration to Europe. Then there is an interactive part in which the participants can share their experiences with the marginalization of civil society engagement and discuss ways out in a fishbowl format.
