Against Covid-19, companies called on to work hard on telework

When it comes to teleworking, there are good and bad students. The Minister of Labor distributed the bad points Thursday evening during her press conference. There are sectors where remote work is not practiced enough, for example banking and insurance, communication, IT, real estate activities and legal professions. In all these professions, the Minister therefore calls for respect for the rules.

According to Elibabeth Borne, 2.5 million employees who could telecommute do not do so at all. For a third of teleworking positions in France, employees continue to visit their company’s premises every day. According to the Minister, these people must – finally – telework.

For the others, efforts must be stepped up. Elisabeth Borne asked that those who telework between one and three days in the week do one more. “Every day counts”, she hammered. However, the rules do not change. Those who telecommute 100% can continue to come back to the company one day a week if they suffer from isolation. The minister also recalled the emergency number, available seven days a week and 24 hours a day: 0800 130 000.

Company managers and employee representatives are called upon to meet as soon as possible to jointly define how to extend the use of teleworking. The minister will bring together the professional branches from next week. And labor inspectors are called upon to verify the proper implementation of teleworking. An instruction must be given to tighten control. With possible sanctions if the sanitary protocol is not respected.

Public administrations must also take action. Jean Castex said they had to lead by example. Their minister, Amélie de Monchalin, wants each agent to be able to have all their messaging remotely, and that by July 1, 100% of agents who have teleworking missions be equipped with a laptop.
