Against a hurricane of layoffs, these 5 industries are pushing many workers

Jakarta

During the Corona virus pandemic (COVID-19), the number of job vacancies has decreased drastically. One of the job search sites, Jobstreet, noted that the number of job vacancies in April-May 2020 decreased significantly. The number is only 8,000 ads, a drop compared to 2019 which reached 30,000 ads.

However, Jobstreet also noted that there are five industries that are still recruiting large numbers of workers, including:

1. Manufacturing / production of 5,273 vacancies
2. General Trading & Wholesale: 2,703 vacancies
3. Banking / Financial Services 2,497 vacancies
4. Retail / Merchandise. 2.485 vacancies
5. Computer / Information Technology (Software) 2,232 vacancies

Jobstreet Indonesia Country Manager Faridah Lim said the above industries still had the largest number of workers during the pandemic. This data was obtained from advertisements on the Jobstreet website.

“Heavy industries or those that still need a large scale of power are still actively opening vacancies and are still looking for workers,” said Faridah in a Virtual Jobstreet Talk, Wednesday (7/10/2020).

On the other hand, Jobstreet also noted a significant increase in job applicants during the Corona pandemic, even doubling.

“From our data, an average of 400 job seekers or applicants are looking for 1 job. During the pandemic there has been a significant increase to 800 applicants per one position, that’s from the average data of all applications on Jobstreet,” explained Faridah.

This is also caused by the wave of layoffs that have continued during the pandemic.
