In Israel there have been massive protests against Prime Minister Netanyahu. Thousands of people chanted slogans for his official residence in Jerusalem, and roads and bridges were blocked in other parts of the country. It is the eleventh week in a row that has been protested.
The protesters are demanding Netanyahu’s resignation. They believe, among other things, that the prime minister is not tackling the corona crisis properly; the number of infections is rising rapidly due to all kinds of relaxation and the number of unemployed has also increased considerably in recent times.
Furthermore, Netanyahu is involved in a corruption scandal. There are three trials against him and the protesters believe that he cannot stay on as prime minister.
Officers injured
The protests have been relatively quiet in recent weeks, but there were several incidents last night, including a blockade set up by the police. Two officers were injured. Thirteen protesters have been arrested.
Prime Minister Netanyahu refuses to leave. According to him, the protests are the work of anarchists.
