Again less established corona infections in Friesland, but not yet sure whether the downward trend has definitely started

The GGD also makes a comment in its weekly overview: fewer vaccines were available this week than in previous weeks, which means that fewer injections were made. She therefore warns against too much optimism, especially since it is not yet possible to say whether the downward trend in the contamination figures has actually started.

Less people usually get tested in weeks with holidays and public holidays. There were 40 percent fewer tests this week among elementary-school children alone because of the holidays.

The number of new infections increased among young adults (18-30 years old). The GGD says it has indications that this group ‘lets loose the reins in the private sphere’ with the relaxations. Among people over 75, the number of positive tests has decreased by about 70 percent since the peak in January, an effect of the vaccination, according to the GGD.

Because less vaccine was available, GGD Fryslân was able to inject fewer injections in the past week: 17,744, against 19,930 a week earlier. A total of 164,115 vaccinations have now been administered by the GGD to residents of Friesland, more than 40,000 have already received two vaccinations from the GGD. In total, more people have already been vaccinated, by general practitioners and hospitals for example. The coming week there will be more vaccine, including from Moderna, that the GGD will use at the location in Franeker.

All adults up to the age of 60 who are usually eligible for the flu shot will receive an invitation for a corona vaccination with Pfizer or Moderna these weeks. The GGD also runs from the end of May with a vaccination bus through the province, in order to be able to give more people close to home an injection against corona.

Last week, 11,877 Frisians had a corona test done at the GGD, the lowest number since the beginning of March. Last week there were 13,086 tests. With the 1175 positive test results from this week, 40,023 residents of Friesland have now tested positive for corona. Just like last week, four deaths and 25 hospital admissions were reported to the GGD (last week 17).

The number of new infections decreased in twelve of the eighteen Frisian municipalities. The decline was greatest in Harlingen. After three weeks of declines, there were again slightly more positive tests in Súdwest-Fryslân. The figures also rose in Leeuwarden, Weststellingwerf, Opsterland and on Terschelling and Vlieland.

The municipal figures (in brackets last week): Leeuwarden 231 (215), Súdwest-Fryslân 207 (162), De Fryske Marren 100 (126), Heerenveen 91 (119), Smallingerland 83 (115), Achtkarspelen 72 (108), Weststellingwerf 62 (50), Opsterland 62 (61), Waadhoeke 61 (85), Tytsjerksteradiel 56 (65), Noordoost-Fryslân 56 (108), Ooststellingwerf 31 (46), Dantumadiel 21 (30), Harlingen 20 (51), Terschelling 12 (4), Ameland 5 (6), Vlieland 5 (2) and Schiermonnikoog 0 (0).
