Again in corona quarantine: will Werder Bremen Mitchell Weiser cut his salary?

No more salary for Mitchell Weiser? The SV Werder Bremen right-back is allegedly unvaccinated and therefore has to be in isolation for the second time.

Bremen – Mitchell Weiser (27) from SV Werder Bremen have to go back to domestic isolation! The loan from Bayer 04 Leverkusen is presumably not vaccinated and fails for the second time within a very short time. That costs the association real money.

On Wednesday, the North Germans announced the next Corona case within the club. Lars Lukas Mai (21) tested positive and has been in quarantine at home since Tuesday.

The same applies to right-back Weiser, albeit without a positive result. The 27-year-old is probably not vaccinated and therefore has to be in isolation whenever a positive test occurs within the team, such as the “Deichstube“reported.

This has probably been the case for the second time in the past week and a half. The repeated failures are a thorn in the side of the Bundesliga relegated, also from a financial point of view.

“Basically this is of course an issue for us, but we have agreed to discuss the matter internally,” said Werder’s head of the professional football and scouting department Clemens Fritz (41). The former international did not want to comment publicly on the vaccination status of his kickers, but he made no secret of the fact that the situation annoys him.

“It’s clear that it costs us a lot of money if you don’t have the opportunity to fall back on players,” said the 41-year-old. Therefore, the Hanseatic people could even cut the entire salary from the loan!

As early as the end of November, the green and white announced that unvaccinated employees should no longer receive a salary for the period of quarantine. That actually applies to players as well.

However, Fritz did not reveal whether Weiser was already affected by the new regulation: “We have not yet made a final decision.”

The former Werder professional announced that there was an “exchange” on the subject of vaccination with the defender from the youth department of 1. FC Cologne. “There is still no compulsory vaccination, so it is a personal decision. We will not impose it on anyone,” said the Erfurt native.

After all, Bremen have so far not been interested in ending the loan prematurely: “There are no considerations in this direction and no discussions with Leverkusen.”

For the coming encounter in the 2. Bundesliga on Friday (6.30 p.m.) against SSV Jahn Regensburg, Mai and Weiser will definitely be out. Eren Dinkci (19) and Niklas Schmidt (23) are also still in isolation.
