Olivier Braet also does not believe that Musk will no longer allow action on Twitter against, for example, hate speech. “He will definitely oppose it, contrary to what his rhetoric is now. It seems he has ideas that point to stricter moderation, such as authentication of the users’ identities.”

Still, Braet thinks Musk may be a little underestimating how the world has changed. “The moderation of what comes out has become a multi-billion dollar business, all companies are required to invest massively in it so that the platform is not an unpleasant environment to be in. Social media is outside his comfort zone, he will of course hire people who are there know all about it, but I think he will be shocked by the expectations that will be imposed on such platforms, including from Europe.”
