Every Monday and Friday, citizens critical of the coronavirus meet in various towns in the Leipzig district and walk through the streets together.

While today, Friday in Grimma – where exactly a week ago a torch protest took place in front of the house of Saxony’s Health Minister Petra Köpping (63, SPD) – according to TAG24 information, the situation in nearby Brandis was different.

Around 70 people gathered in the village for an anti-corona walk around 7 p.m. However, this was accompanied by several police vehicles and had to come to an end shortly before 8 p.m.

On site, the officers established a total of 57 identities and initiated appropriate administrative offense proceedings.

“Furthermore, a total of six criminal charges were filed (insult, attempted bodily harm, breach of the peace, resistance to law enforcement officers),” said police spokesman Chris Graupner in a final review of the evening.

De currently applicable in Saxony Corona emergency ordinance permitted only fixed rallies with a maximum of ten participants – this number was definitely exceeded on Friday in Brandis, which is why the police had to intervene.
