PEC played a home game against RKC Waalwijk tonight. The municipality and police feared that an influx of supporters would endanger public safety and that heavy fireworks would be set off. Supporters of PEC Zwolle also caused unrest earlier this year, the mayor said in the emergency order.
The measure means that the police may ask people for identification earlier. Football supporters who enter the area around the stadium must immediately leave the area on the instructions of the police. They should also not wear clothing that makes identification difficult, such as a balaclava.
Limburg municipalities
An emergency ordinance was announced yesterday in the municipalities of Maastricht, Sittard-Geleen, Stein and Beek, following messages on social media and last weekend’s riots, such as in Stein.
There is a ban on gatherings and fireworks and objects that can be used as weapons are prohibited. The police may also carry out preventive searches.
In Sittard-Geleen, Stein and Beek, the emergency ordinance until Monday morning 08:00. In Maastricht, this applies until 06.00 on Tuesday morning.
