Washington DC –
The Republican Party is expected to take control of the House of Representatives or the DPR United States (US). This is important for US President Donald Trump to sort out his agenda when he returns to the White House in January.
Reported ReutersSunday (10/11/2024), counting of votes is still going on from the November 5 general election, but Edison Research projects that the Republican Party has won 213 seats in the DPR with 435 members.
Republicans need to win five more seats to control the House and already have enough wins to take control of the US Senate from Democrats. Edison Research says that the Democrats have won 205 seats so far, including preparing on Saturday that Representative Greg Stanton in Arizona has won re-election.

Democrats need to win 13 of the remaining 17 seats to take control. With Trump’s victory in the presidential election and the Republican victory in the Senate, keeping the House would give Republicans broad powers to push through a broad agenda of tax and spending cuts, -energy management, and border security controls.
Most of the remaining 17 House races are in competitive districts in Western states. The speed at which votes are counted is generally slower than in other US regions.
Republicans currently have nine seats and Democrats eight. Fourteen seats were widely considered competitive before the election.
Republican senators will decide next week who will be the party’s leader in the Senate in 2025 with John Thune, John Cornyn and Rick Scott competing for the position. Cornyn vowed Saturday night that if he wins, he will keep the Senate in session until Trump’s cabinet is confirmed.
“There are no weekends, no downtime. “Democrats can work together for the good of the country, or continue in opposition, which will be crushed in the end,” he wrote in X.
For your information, the US adheres to a bicameral system for its legislative institutions. The US Congress was created under Article I of the Constitution and consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The US Constitution gives Congress sole authority to enact laws and declare war, the right to confirm or reject many of the President’s policies, and substantial investigative powers.
The US House of Representatives consists of 435 elected members, divided among the 50 states by population. In addition, there are six non-voting members, representing the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and four other United States territories, namely American Samoa, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and Co- the kingdom of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The presiding officer of the assembly is the Speaker of the DPR, who is elected by its members. He is the second person in the line of presidential succession, after the US Vice President.
The House has several powers assigned to it alone, including the power to introduce revenue bills, impeach federal officials, and elect the President if an electoral college is bound.
Meanwhile, the Senate is made up of 100 Senators, 2 for each state. They are elected for 6-year terms, but the terms are rotated so that approximately one-third of the Senate is re-elected every 2 years. The Vice President of the United States is the President of the Senate and can cast tying votes in the event of a tie in the Senate.
