After weeks of decline, prices at the pump have started to rise again

The prices of fuels also “deconfine”. They started to rise sharply last week after weeks of fall, according to figures released on Monday by the Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition. The price of diesel, the best-selling fuel, was worth 1.1768 euros per liter, up 1.90 cents from the previous week. It had previously fallen for twelve consecutive weeks, in the wake of oil prices which collapsed with the health crisis linked to coronavirus.

The super unleaded petrol 95 sold for 1.2684 euros, up 2.42 cents. As for the SP95-E10, which contains up to 10% ethanol, it gained 2.59 cents, at 1.2486 euros. Finally, the SP98 was sold 1.3224 euro, or 2.23 cents more.

Fuel prices at the pump vary according to several parameters such as the price of a barrel of oil, the euro-dollar exchange rate, the level of stocks of petroleum products and demand, as well as taxes. Oil prices collapsed with the Covid-19 pandemic, which depressed demand with slowing economic activity, particularly in transportation. Recently, however, they have recovered somewhat in a more optimistic climate, buoyed by the actual fall in supply and hopes for a recovery in demand for black gold.
