The US news agency Reuters reported in 2018 that Johnson & Johnson had known for decades that their talcum powder contained traces of asbestos. The company would always have kept that information under wraps. At the time, Johnson & Johnson lost 10 percent, or $40 billion, in market capitalization due to the disclosure.
However, Johnson & Johnson has always maintained that there is no asbestos in the talcum powder and has labeled the allegations as disinformation. Even now, with the company ceasing global sales of talcum powder, the company stands by its stance. Johnson’s baby powder is safe, contains no asbestos and does not cause cancer.
